Canada wants to flex its virtual muscles

On the real ice, the Canadians are always among the big favourites. This year, the North Americans will look to prove themselves on the sticks at the IIHF Esports Fan Championship.
A trophy cabinet should no longer be enough, the Canadian national ice hockey team has won every major IIHF title in multiple editions - but these figures pale in comparison to its success at World Championships. 26 times the Canadians crowned themselves global dominator on the puck. Now the fans from the “Great White North” have the opportunity to demonstrate match the pros on the virtual ice.

However, these two eSportsmen have to be determined first in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One national qualifiers. Canada’s qualification tournaments will start on Thursday at 6pm (UTC-7) in the west and 9pm (UTC-4) in the east of the country. All participants must be at least 16-years-old and a Canadian citizen. In addition, the current place of residence must be in Canada or the USA. The qualifying rounds will be played in EA SPORTS™NHL™ 20. The qualifiers will be played with the Canadian national team, thus ensuring equal opportunities. In the 1vs1 format and the knockout system, opponents cannot afford to slip up, any defeat means elimination. The two winners of the console tournaments join forces for the main round and fight against representatives from Sweden, Finland, Russia & Co. for the Esports Fan Championship. In addition, winning the qualifier will give away two tickets to see Canada compete at the 2021 Ice Hockey World Championship game, 100 euros prize money and an IIHF Esports Fan Championship Puck.
