Czech qualifier: On the trail of Jagr & Co.
by Niklas Aßfalg/Christian Bellinger
Czech ice hockey fans know what international success feels like - at the 2020 IIHF Esports Fan Championship they have to prove their own skills.
Twelve times Czech captains have lifted the World Championship trophy, half of the titles were still celebrated as Czechoslovakia. In the medal table of the World Championships, the Eastern Europeans rank third, only Russia and Canada fetched more silverware. The last victory, however, dates back to 2010; the Czechs have not reached the finals in the last nine editions.
The fans who are spoiled by success are pining for the atmosphere of the final - now they can bring it about themselves. The IIHF Esports Fan Championship gives Czech fans the opportunity to showcase their national colours in NHL™ 20. However, before the global comparison can reveal their true strength, the two representatives must first be determined.

The qualifying tournaments on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will produce the duo that will compete in the playoffs under the Czech flag on Friday from 5pm (UTC+2). All participants must be at least 16-years-old and a Czech citizen.
For reasons of fairness, each team will play with its home national team. Technical requirements dictate ownership of NHL™ 20 and a membership of PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live. The course of the tournament is determined by the knockout system in 1vs1 format, in case of a defeat the dream of the main round is bursting.
The winners on the two consoles, on the other hand, will receive an entry to the playoff round, an IIHF Esports Fan Championship Puck, two tickets to a Czech team game at the 2021 IIHF World Championship, and prize money of 100 euros. At the virtual replacement of the World Championship 2020, fans can follow in the footsteps of Jaromir Jagr, Patrik Elias, Milan Hejduk & Co.
