Before the IIHF Esports Fan Championship players can show off their skills on the virtual ice, a few steps in preparation must be followed.

REGISTRATION: On the portal for the IIHF Esports Fan Championship you will find an overview of all tournaments at the tab "Qualification Fan Tournaments". There you will also find the most important information such as the console designation, the tournament format, and the game mode for the respective competition. On the tournament map you can register for a tournament and secure your place in the field of participants.

MANDATORY CHECK-IN: Two hours before the start of the tournament is the start of the check-in. Players must reconfirm their availability to play by checking in during the check-in period. All players must check in at the latest 30 minutes before the start of the tournament!

LAST-CHANCE PHASE: Half an hour before the start of the tournament the Last-Chance Phase starts. All players who have registered by then but have not yet checked in will be removed from the tournament. This creates places for all fans who want to participate at short notice.

SETTING UP THE GAME: As soon as the tournament starts, the players will receive a message on the portal that their game is ready. The first game can be viewed under "My Match". Using the network ID (PSN ID or Xbox Live Gamertag), the opponent must be added as a friend on the console.

In the main menu of NHL 20 you have to click on "All Modes" first, in the next step you have to select the format "Online Versus" in the column "Quick Modes". Afterwards the tile "Play Online Versus" must be clicked.

After you have selected your own team, the opponent can be invited via the L1 button (PlayStation 4) or the LB button (Xbox One). Before doing so, make sure that the player inviting his opponent has set the correct settings. These can be found under "Rules".

Screenshots as insurance for fraud

POST-GAME: After the game is over, both players must enter the result into the tournament software on esports.iihf.com. The result must be confirmed by the other player.

To protect yourself from cheating, two screenshots should be taken: One from the lobby, showing which player is playing on which side, and one from the final result.

If players are asked to do so, they must send their screenshots via e-mail to support@esports.iihf.com. The primary goal of the IIHF Esports Fan Championship is to provide an entertaining replacement for the cancelled 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. Participants should always play fair and respect their opponents.
