Kazakhstan opens the IIHF Esports Fan Championship
by Christian Bellinger/Alexander Maier
Today Kazakhstan is looking for two representatives for the premiere of the IIHF Esports Fan Championship - a unique opportunity for every ice hockey fan.
After a three-year absence, the Kazakh national team has qualified for the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship again in time for the 2020 IIHF Esports Fan Championship. The Division I tournament in 2019 was played on home ice in Nur-Sultan (previously Astana), the capital of Kazakhstan. With the local crowd behind them, the team from the world's largest landlocked country won all five games, securing first place and the associated promotion to the world elite. Following the cancellation of the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Switzerland, Kazakh fans now at least have the chance to represent their country on the virtual ice rink.
