Vibholm and Christensen to compete for Denmark
by Niklas Aßfalg/Christian Bellinger
The Danish double for the playoffs of the 2020 IIHF Esports Fan Championship was determined on Saturday. Martin 'vibholm16' Vibholm and Paw Fonnesbech 'Paw Fonnesbech Christensen' Christensen prevailed, winning the PS4 and Xbox championships respectively.
The two gamers will now form a team to represent Denmark in the Esport Fan Championship playoffs, going up against 30 other players representing 15 countries. Christensen was able to prove his offensive qualities on the Xbox One, first by defeating 'Bengtsson9' 4:3 in the semi-final and in the final earning the same result against 'Timekiller' and thus securing his ticket to the playoffs. 'Timekiller' had earned his place in the final by beating 'Svenson' 3:0.
He will be joined by 'vibholm16', who has been able to impress primarily with his solid defensive work. He did not have to concede a single goal on his way to PS4 victory. Vibholm demonstrated some pretty amazing efficiency: in the round of the last 16, the quarter-finals and the semi-finals he defeated his opponents by the dance score of 1:0! 'Bjornpont', 'AlsNr6OIK' and 'Krikker' could not crack the defensive combination.
The PS4 champ had obviously saved his attacking power until the final game: 'Truckerleer99' had previously scored ten goals in three games, but against 'vibholm16' he had no chance, going down 13:0. Both qualifier winners not only entered the playoffs but will also each receive two tickets to see Denmark compete at the 2021 Ice Hockey World Championship game, an IIHF Esports Fan Championship Puck and 100 Euros prize money.
